Abstract

The Bergen Spotlights project is an initiative of the Office of Public Relations and Marketing to highlight Bergen students, faculty, staff, and alumni at the College. Started in 2021 by Dr. Jessica Fargnoli, Assistant Director of Public Relations in the Office of Public Relations and Marketing, the project has gained momentum to capture the success stories of students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Success stories have been nominated, selected, or self-identified. Student and faculty nominations have come from the Office of Student Life, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the Department of Athletics, the Bergen Community College Foundation, the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF), and academic divisions or departments. Several spotlight success stories were featured as part of the College’s communication success campaigns and in interior signage at the College. The interior signage was awarded a national Paragon Award (2023) and the communication success campaign was awarded a District 1 Medallion Award (2022) through the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR). For the first time in Bergen Community College history, the National Council in Marketing and Public Relations has recognized the institution’s work with a Paragon Award – the highest honor in strategic communication at community colleges. There are currently (Summer 2024) ninety-seven Spotlights.
