 Sub-Series

Abstract

From the program announcement: "The 54 program CBS television series, 'Science and Society: A Humanistic View,' is an attempt to explain how science has influenced and and is influencing man's destiny. The approach is eclectic; it is not designed to provide either an anti-science or proscience viewpoint, but to lead to a better understanding of the impact, possibilities and limitations of sciene and its accompanying technology. In order to provide a broad interdisciplinary approach to this multifaceted topic, the viewpoints of biologists, chemists, physicists, philosophers, theologians, political scientists, university administrators, government officials, journalists, psychologists, historians, and others will be presented. In short, the series will provide a forum for experts with varying viewpoints. The perspective of this series is one of gradually widening circles in the search of knowledge. After a brief overview, the series examinse the inner circle which is man's search for his own identity. The second ring of concern is the quality of life itself and the third will deal with man's physical world. From there, we approach the fourth and fifth levels of concern which are for the total society, and finally the future."
