Latin America: The Restless Colossus, May 16 - September 16, 1977

 Sub-Series

Abstract

From the program announcement: "Latin America is an area of great potential and profound problems which has often found itself outside the flow of major world affairs. However, recent political and economic developments indicate that the southern hemisphere will no longer be consigned to the back waters of world events. Similarly, the dynamic tensions which exist within Latin American societies and, indeed, in our own Hispanic communities must be re-examined. Unfortunately, this emerging reality of Latin American is either ignored or distorted by many people because of linguistic barriers, stereotyped images, and a general lack of knowledge about the region. The aim of this 54-program television series is to provide a broad interdisciplinary approach to this immense region and the multi-faceted themes related to its status in the 20th century world. To accomplish this task, the viewpoints of historians, journalists, diplomats, novelists, artists, clergymen, economists, politicians, movie producers, and others will be presented."
